A Russian ship carrying “a dangerous cargo” reached the Syrian Port of Tartus “between 11 and 12 January”, on Saturday told AFP the maritime expert Mikhail strengthened.

“The ‘Chariot’ ship arrived in Tartus on 11 or 12 January,” said strengthened, who explained that had come to that conclusion based on the data of the automatic identification system (AIS) boats.

According to Russian press reports the ship could carry up to 60 tons of weapons and military equipment sent by the Russian public agency Rosoboronexport arms export.

United States on Friday expressed its concern to Moscow with regard to an alleged delivery of Russian arms to Syria.

“In what regards the boat, we have expressed our concerns to Russia and Cyprus, where the ship reached port for the last time,” said the spokesman for the Department of State, Victoria Nuland.

For almost a year Syria has lived an uprising against the regime of President Bashar Al-Assad and Western leaders have asked him to leave power as the number of deaths increased to over 5,000 now. But Moscow has shown strongly support his Syrian ally.
